In Loving Memory

Asbury W. Lee III
1914-2009

Granddad found joy in watching the birds at the feeder outside his window, or in watching a flag unfurl in the wind.

He was a man who started every day with a song -- Oh! What a Beautiful Morning! -- and ended it with a prayer.

He was a man who, I think, wished never to be alone but managed never to be lonely.

His love and pride for his family was so great that he couldn't help but brag to anyone who would listen -- often to our embarrassment and chagrin.

I will never forget the way that he said the words, "Now listen..." and how he laughed with his whole face.

Granddad was a flirt, he was nosy, and he was sometimes quite stern. But he taught us that there is beauty right outside the window, that there is music on the tip of your tongue, and that there is no shame in loving your family and wanting everyone to know it.

Granddad lived until it was time for him to die. And we were lucky to have known him.
